Paradise at Mt Ranier

After the winter we had and the late cold spring it might be hard to call it Paradise, but that’s where we were on Thursday night.  Paradise Inn on Mt Ranier with a 40 foot wall of snow in the parking lot.  I guess we’re the lucky ones, our snow is all gone, their’s will be . . . → Read More: Paradise at Mt Ranier

Nordic Walking and Nature

One of my favorite things about Nordic Walking is meeting so many wonderful people. I’ve had classes this week in Plymouth, Minnetonka and Wayzata and feel like I have lots of new friends.

The other favorite thing is the natural wonders we encounter along the way.  Here in Minnesota the birds are making their come back after . . . → Read More: Nordic Walking and Nature

Day 31 Moonlight Basin

Woke up to 5 inches of new snow “dense and supportive” according to the snow phone.  Grabbed our gear and headed out to end this trip at Moonlight Basin.  It was really busy when we arrived,   but as the snow came down harder and harder it got quieter and quieter on the slopes.   It . . . → Read More: Day 31 Moonlight Basin

Day 30 Last Day at Big Sky

We’re leaving on Thursday morning so today was our last day at Big Sky.  Michelle had the day off and it was a treat to ski with her all afternoon.  We ducked into Bear’s Lair for Sammy and hit Liberty Bowl when it opened mid afternoon for some sweet turns in 6 inches of new snow.

I’ve . . . → Read More: Day 30 Last Day at Big Sky

Day 29 Lazy Day

We’d skied for 4 days in a row so it was time for a day off.  I sat with my computer working on Nordic Walking Queen updates and events, Hoigaard’s corporate contacts and my HOW eletter.  It snowed most of the day and often it was snowing sideways with the wind.  It won’t be a light . . . → Read More: Day 29 Lazy Day

day 18 Vail!

Last day in the mountains. We awoke to fresh snow and drove over to Vail.  Meta’s daughter Megan was our guide for the morning. It’s such a huge mountain and can be very intimidating but Megan gently led our group giving them the complete Vail experience.  It was such fun to ski the back bowls and . . . → Read More: day 18 Vail!

Day 17 I get it about Women

ok, so yesterday I was trying to explain why traveling with women was such a different experience than traveling with family or friends.  I laid awake last night and I think I figured it out.

Women are the caregivers.  We always put everyone else ahead of ourselves. That means we are not always good at meeting our . . . → Read More: Day 17 I get it about Women

Day 13/14/15 HOW has landed at Beaver Creek

Saturday morning we drove down to Bozeman, I said goodbye to Dan and then Meta and I went to run the errands for trip.  Our list included a new cast for her wrist (yes she’s going skiing with a broken wrist and yes it was suddenly too tight!) grocery store, and liquor store.  We worked our . . . → Read More: Day 13/14/15 HOW has landed at Beaver Creek

Day 12 Just go for a Walk

We moved today from the Lake Condo down to Michelle and Brian’s in the meadows.  None of us were willing to battle the cold again so we opted to take our time and pack it up to make Bruce’s departure easy in the morning.

Once we deposited all of our stuff I really needed to go for . . . → Read More: Day 12 Just go for a Walk

Day 10 Skiing is like a dance with the Mountain

We first came to Big Sky in 1990.  Dan and I drove out with our three kyds in our converted van packed full of gear and winter vacation essentials.  It was the beginning of a love affair with Lone Peak.  Since then we’ve returned almost every year. I always look forward to coming back, it feels . . . → Read More: Day 10 Skiing is like a dance with the Mountain
