Enjoy the silence Dan! As you begin to explore walking with poles the most important thing that XC skiers need to understand is that this is a walk and not your typical pole workout, there is a difference. Chin up, shoulders down and back and enjoy that natural long arm swing as the pole connects to the earth. You'll get a nice long push to maximize that upper body workout. It's always helpful to connect with an instructor if there's any in your area. Enjoy!

Amen, I am avid biker, XC skier and walker and am always amazed at the number of people who are plugged in while exercising. I am learning to crave the silence and sound of nature. A side note I am just beginning to start Nordic Walking any tips??

I'm a firm believer in mittens when it's really cold. For Nordic walking I use a pair of cross country "lobster" gloves which have a thumb and 2 fingers, fit 2 fingers in each one. Warmth and flexibility. If thumbs are getting numb I'd check how tight your straps are and also evaluate if you're putting downward pressure on your wrist and strap when you push on your pole. Numbness is often a result of pressure. Make sure that your mitten's or gloves are windproof.

I'm having trouble with thumbs getting numb. Also, what type of gloves/mittens do you recommend for cold weather?

Walking thru the woods is the best! I agree it does have the power to transform. I just Nordic Walked on the Cleary Lake X/C wooded trail this a.m. and I now feel that I can tackle the world with a smile on my face. :)

I feel the same way about my "elder mentors" that I Nordic Walk with every week. I watch to see what makes them confident and so funny...and file it for the future.

But, every woman over 70 should make sure their shoes fit as well as their glasses and teeth...Nordic Walking is so much better with proper shoes and I notice that footwear is not a priority with older women in my classes for some reason...I remind them that too big or slip-on shoes are not safe!

Queenie, you are the best example of 60 I've seen (besides Kathy F.)and a role model for any age!

Hi. My wife took a nordic walking class this AM and loved it. Now I want to take it. Are you offering any more soon? What about Part 2 in Wayzata. Should I take part 1 first? Thanks. Michael W
